Maple Grove Information Systems Department News

The City’s Information Systems Department is a six-member team that has been entrusted to keep the City of Maple Grove’s technology up to date and operating efficiently. Our main role is customer service ensuring that staff has the technical tools and assistance to perform their jobs effectively and efficiently. This entails managing and maintaining over 200 desktop PC’s, 50 mobile computers, 180 plus cellular devices, 25 miles of fiber, 15 servers, 25 plus supported sites, 400 users, many different applications and Geographic Information Systems (GIS mapping).

We are constantly researching and staying abreast of new technology, looking for more efficient ways of doing business while keeping the long term costs down. For example, our LaserFiche Document Imaging system includes a workflow module that allows us to automate processes, route documents electronically and retrieve electronic signatures. An obvious result of this workflow is the elimination of some internal “paper” documents. It is these types of projects from the IS Department that help the City operate and keep their expenditures down.
