Veteran's Preference Information

The City of Maple Grove awards preference to qualified veterans and spouses of deceased or disabled veterans, subject to the provisions of applicable Minnesota statute.

To claim Veteran's Preference, a DD214 must be attached to your online application, faxed to the confidential HR fax 763-494-6428, emailed to humanresources@maplegrovemn.gov or mailed to City of Maple Grove, 12800 Arbor Lakes Parkway, P.O. Box 1180, Maple Grove, MN  55311-6180.

In order for you to receive Veteran's Preference points, the supporting documents must be received within five (5) calendar days after the application deadline.

Awarding Preference

Veteran's preference is awarded in the selection process if:

  • The applicant has completed the veteran's preference sections of the employment application.
  • The applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
  • Supporting documentation is provided, and
  • The claim for preference is approved.

 

Required Documentation

Applicants claiming preference must supply a copy of their DD214 showing years of service and type of discharge. Disabled veterans must also supply official documentation such as a letter from the USDVA verifying active duty disability related to the position requirements.

Spouses of a disabled veteran must provide the veteran's DD214 and letter from USVDA verifying active-duty disability. Widows of deceased veterans applying for preference points must supply the veteran's DD214 showing years of service and type of discharge and FL21-802 or death certificate.
