Seasonal weight restrictions

The start date for spring load restrictions in the metro frost zones is Friday, March 10, 2023, at 12:01 a.m.

In accordance with Minnesota statute, all city roads within the City of Maple Grove are restricted to five tons per axle during the period determined by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

If the city engineer determines a road will have a restriction other than five tons per axle or the period is different than designated by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the applicable city roads will be posted with a weight restriction sign.

The overweight permit cost is a flat $20 daily fee plus a $2 per load, per location charge. Permits are non-refundable.

Weight restrictions

In the City of Maple Grove, certain roads have posted weight restrictions that are outside the seasonal weight restrictions enforced during the spring freeze/thaw cycle.

Road weight restrictions do not apply to emergency and service vehicles such as fire trucks, utility service vehicles, buses, and garbage trucks.

The Maple Grove streets division will establish allowed weight and/or time variances, and those may fluctuate with weather and road conditions. A valid permit must be carried in each overweight vehicle while on posted roads.
