Membership to this board is filled by nominations from the Mayor with confirmation by the City Council. The seven-member board serves three-year terms and is staffed by the Parks and Recreation Director.
The Parks and Recreation Board is responsible for the acquisition, development and maintenance of all City parks and trails. They are also responsible for the operation of the Community Center and all recreation programs provided to City residents. The Board acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council and has an operating program with independent responsibility.
Combining all areas of operation, there are 44 benefit-earning employees and nearly 425 seasonal employees working annually providing recreation programs for over 47,000 participants; offering great playtime and social experiences for over 817,000 visitors; and maintaining nearly 1850 acres of parkland. The Park Board is also involved with the parkland acquisition as new developments come into the City.
Regular Meetings are held the third Thursday of every month at the Government Center Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to present a topic(s) for discussion should call 763-494-6502 two weeks ahead of meeting. Archived minutes and agendas may be acquired by contacting the Parks & Recreation department.
Members of the public can provide comment or input by submitting an Online Form. These comments need to be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on the meeting date (3rd Thursday) and will be read during the online meeting.
