Become a Maple Grove Police Explorer!

The Maple Grove Police Department is now recruiting Police Explorers! This is your opportunity to become part of your police department and be an active community member, while preparing for your future.
Police Exploring is a program for young men and women between the ages of 14 – 20 who are interested in law enforcement. Exploring provides in-depth information and knowledge about the field, while providing an opportunity to experience real-life police work by bringing Explorers and Police Officers together on a weekly basis.

The Maple Grove Police Explorer – Post #3775 meetings are held at 6:00p.m. every Monday at the Maple Grove Police Department (12800 Arbor Lakes Parkway), where Explorers are taught police techniques in areas such as:
* Domestic Crisis Intervention
* Traffic Stop
* Burglary in Progress
* Hostage Negotiation
* Crime Prevention
* Emergency Field First Aid
* Radio Communications
* Firearms Safety/Competitive Shooting
* Bomb Threat Response
* and much more!

Each year Explorers from around the state attend the Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer Conference where Explorers compete in practical and academic events covering a wide range of Law Enforcement skills and techniques. These competitions are sponsored and critiqued by agencies including the FBI, ATF, DEA, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department.

Scholarship money is awarded at the State Conference by placing in the events previously mentioned. In addition, several college scholarships are available exclusively for Explorers who can also earn merit scholarships from numerous federal law enforcement agencies.
As a Maple Grove Police Explorer, youth are given the opportunity to ride along with a Maple Grove Police Officer. They are able to do so only after becoming a full member of the Post and passing a short exam in which they must demonstrate a working knowledge of law enforcement functions.

To be considered, the following criteria must be met:

Age: Must be 14 (and completed the 8th grade) to 20 years of age
Character: Must be attending school, maintaining at least a C average, and pass a thorough background check.
Residency: Must reside within the City of Maple Grove or a neighboring city without a Law Enforcement Explorer Post. Those under 18 must be living with parent or legal guardian.
