Minnesota State Building Code

By law, the City is required to enforce the Minnesota State Building Code. Local amendments of the State Building Code are not permitted.

The Minnesota State Building Code incorporates by reference the following model codes:

  • 2015 MN Building Code
  • 2015 International Residential Code 
  • 2017 National Electrical Code 
  • 2015 International Mechanical and Fuel Gas Code
  • 2015 MN State Accessibility Code Chapter 1341 including Chapter 11 of the 2006 IBC
  • 2015 MN Plumbing Code

The Minnesota State Building Code also includes rules on plumbing, elevators, energy conservation, flood proofing, manufactured homes, prefabricated structures and modular buildings.

Sections of the Minnesota State Building Code are periodically amended by the state and different editions of the model codes are adopted. The link to the state web address above should be checked periodically for the latest code adoptions.
