Maple Grove CodeRED


The City of Maple Grove uses CodeRED, high-speed telephone notification system, to send mass notifications by phone, email, and text to keep citizens informed. Maple Grove may activate CodeRED to send emergency notifications to registered subscribers. The City may also use CodeRED to communicate non-life safety matters, such as planned road closures, water main repairs, water service interruptions, etc.

There is no charge to register for or to use CodeRED, and personal information is kept confidential.

CodeRED Mobile Alert App

Residents and visitors alike can receive enhanced public safety alerts no matter where you are located via the CodeRED Mobile Alert App – a free public safety app for both Android and iPhone users. The CodeRED Mobile Alert app delivers community and emergency alerts to individuals targeted within an impacted geographical area so that you may also receive timely notifications when you’re on the road, away from home.

Things to Know About CodeRED

CodeRED delivers notifications by phone, email, and/or text
CodeRED is compatible with TDD/TTY devices for those who are deaf or hard of hearing
When receiving alerts, CodeRED caller ID numbers may appear as one of the following:

• 866-419-5000 Emergency Calls
• 855-969-4636 General Alerts

Individuals that have already registered for the service but would like to update their phone number or add a cell phone number to the database may do so by re-registering

The CodeRED Mobile Alert app sends geographically-based messages to subscribers nationwide.

Federal Communications Commission prohibits CodeRED from calling a cell phone except when they are opted-in to receive notifications. Maple Grove Residents and business owners who only use cell phones should manually register their cell phone number with CodeRED to ensure they receive notifications.

There are Three Tiers of CodeRED Notification

Tier 1 – Emergency Calls

  • These are the highest level of messages sent by the City of Maple Grove.
  • This will only be used by City staff for emergencies and hopefully only a few times each year.
  • These messages go to EVERYONE, but can be scaled back geographically by geofencing.
  • Examples include:
    • Attacks in Public Places
    • Chemical Emergencies
    • Civil Unrest
    • 911 Telephone Outage

Tier 2 – General Alerts

  • These messages don’t rise to the level of an emergency
  • Provides information for citizens to make personal decisions based on the situation
  • These messages will be selectively and moderately used by staff
  • Examples include:
    • Burning Restrictions
    • Utility Outages
    • Water Main Breaks

Tier 3 – Community Messages

  • Completely optional and individuals must opt-in in order to receive these messages
  • The city will push out these messages ONLY to people who want them
  • Examples include:
    • Crime Alerts
    • Park & Rec Events
      • Community Events sponsored by Maple Grove
      • Select Events occurring within Maple Grove
    • Park & Rec Facilities
      • Updates regarding city facilities
      • Updates related to public parks
    • Street Repair and Utility Work
      • Non-emergency repair work
      • Planned updates and routine maintenance
